Led by Valerie Navarrete (RISD MFA 2023 Global Arts and Culture), this conversation will explore art through a physiological lens by tracing the emotional affect materialized and recorded through history.
The session will begin with observing an artwork and discussing it in a way that preserves the living relationship between the body of the artist and the body of the work itself. Within this entanglement, examine the materiality, the journey of the work’s sublimation, and the ethics of its presentation within a museum setting.
Researchers of all disciplines–artists, scientists, historians, writers, and others are welcome and encouraged to attend. This group-led discussion is meant to generate ideas on how art can transverse disciplinary boundaries within research.
