“Hockets For Two Voices” by Mingjia Chen & Linnea Soblosky
Praised by Bandcamp, Pitchfork, and Artforum, as well as Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth (“it destroys you with beauty”), Hockets for Two Voices is experimental vocal music where two singers split notes with each other in fast succession. It turns into a disconcerting, mesmerizing collage, as the two voices merge together through melody. O’Reilly was a part of the wyrd folk movement in the 2000s (playing with Feathers and Brightblack Morning Light) and has collaborated with Bjork. In addition, she developed an amazing app which creates music out of shapes. Hockets will appeal to any adventurous music fans.. This is a rare opportunity to see the piece live. Mingjia Chen and Linnea Sablosky are only doing eight worldwide dates, with the only other US performance happening in New York for Bang on a Can. In addition to Hockets, the duo will be performing their own material as well.
