there is a public hearing on changes to the entertainment ordinance that are very beneficial to bars, restaurants, musicians, and anyone who wants Providence to be cool and fun. The main change is that in order for dancing, amplified music (i.e. literally a guitar plugged into a speaker), or multiple people in a band playing, establishments need an entertainment license right now. The update considers live music that is for background/ambiance (i.e. not with a cover or promoter) to be considered “incidental entertainment” and therefore allowed.
