Ugly Moon was founded by brothers Mike and Matt Mowry with bassist, long time friend and musical collaborator Johnny McMahon in Providence, Rhode Island. Years of writing, tweaking, and reformulating make Ugly Moon’s voice relatable and introspective. Emerging from abject obscurity to speakers near you. // In 2015, at Providence’s MADCAP open mic, Amanda, Nicole, and Beth bonded over their admiration for each other’s solo vocal performances. They came together to harmonize on Paramore’s “Hate to See Your Heart Break,” discovering a unique musical chemistry. Originally called “The Fates,” they rebranded to “How’s About Charlie” in 2017 after realizing the name was already taken. With the addition of percussionist Aaron Bedard in 2018, the group expanded their sound and began booking gigs across New England and beyond, continuing to write, perform, and grow together.
